CollegeNET, Inc. announced today an agreement with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) that will
ease the process of applying to medical school. Applying to most medical schools is a multi-step process that requires
each applicant to complete a "common application" through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)
and multiple school-specific secondary applications. AAMC hosts the web-based common AMCAS application for 115
participating U.S. medical schools. CollegeNET, a contractor to a number of individual medical colleges, transparently
hosts tailored, campus-specific secondary application forms on each college's behalf.
Until today, medical school applicants have had to tediously re-enter common information for each secondary application
form. There has been no process available to use information already entered in the AMCAS application to pre-populate the
multiple secondary applications students need to complete. Under this new agreement, schools can authorize the transfer
of data from the AMCAS common application into the medical college secondary application hosted by CollegeNET. CollegeNET
will use its patented Universal Forms Engine to securely transfer the data to the secondary applications for those schools.
As a consequence, when students complete the AMCAS common application, basic data will automatically populate each secondary
application. As more medical colleges host their secondary applications with CollegeNET, the repetitive entry of data by
applicants will be reduced.
According to Pam Cranston, Associate Vice President, Division of Student Affairs and Education Services, "The AAMC is
pleased to have developed this agreement with CollegeNET. It responds to requests by several schools that AMCAS provide
secondary application services while recognizing that the AAMC is not ready to develop such a new service independently.
CollegeNET was selected for a variety of reasons including CollegeNET's strict policy with respect to protecting applicant
data, their experience with web-based applications processes, favorable reports from several AAMC constituents already
working with CollegeNET, CollegeNET's experience as an Application Service Provider (ASP), and their alliances with high
caliber organizations such as ACT and Commonfund."
According to Jim Wolfston, CollegeNET president: "We look forward to working with the schools and the AAMC to provide
secondary web admissions services and increase the convenience for students applying to medical school. Our long
experience in web admissions and our proven skill at securely transferring data between institutional servers for web-based
graduation, enrollment services, and tuition processing positions us well to provide this new capability."
