CollegeNET, Inc. of Portland, Oregon reported today that it securely processed 943,375 web-based
admissions applications on behalf of higher ed institutional clients during calendar year 2004.
CollegeNET works for institutional clients by serving web admissions forms for one or more schools
within the institution–e.g. undergraduate, business, graduate, medical, and law.
The company designs each application form in collaboration with the appropriate admissions office so
that it fits with the look and feel of the admissions website. Although CollegeNET serves and processes
each form and any corresponding electronic payments, students link to the application from the admissions
website operated by the school. According to Anton Leof, vice president of business development for
CollegeNET: "2004 was a strong and growing year for all segments of our admission business.
Schools appreciate the reduction of paper and the powerful, customer relationship management capabilities
of our system."
As more universities jettison paper in favor of the web, security has become an increasingly important issue.
According to Leof: "We believe our company is the only major processor of web admissions applications that
is doing all processing on a secure, Linux, open-source foundation. Security comes from first-source
engineering, open source protocols, and the organizational commitment to adjust systems ahead of evolving
hacker methodologies." In addition to processing web admissions applications, CollegeNET processes higher ed
tuition payments, housing deposits, parking fees, and on-line donations. The company has been issued 2 patents
covering innovations in its underlying e-commerce processing technology.
